About the Game

Expeditions: Rome is a tactical RPG developed by Danish studio Logic Artists and published by THQ Nordic. It was released for Windows on January 20, 2022, and is the third entry in the Expeditions series.

The story is set during the Roman Republic, with the player taking the role of a young Legatus whose father is murdered by a political rival. Forced to flee Rome, the protagonist joins a Roman military campaign against a Greek rebellion.

Greece is the first and one of the game's major theatres of war. The player travels across Greek territories, fights the forces of the rebellion and leads a Roman legion through an extensive military campaign. The adventure later expands to North Africa and Gaul, while much of the political storyline connects back to Rome.

Gameplay combines turn-based tactical combat with traditional RPG mechanics. Players create and customize their Legatus, choosing appearance, gender, class and skills, while recruiting and developing a group of unique companions.

Combat takes place on tactical battlefields where positioning, equipment and abilities are essential. Characters have different skills and weapons, while equipment can be upgraded through loot, crafting and customization.

Beyond individual battles, players also command an entire Roman legion. They recruit legionaries, upgrade their war camp, conquer territories, exploit resources and defend captured regions. The three major campaigns across Greece, North Africa and Gaul provide a broader strategic layer alongside the character-level RPG gameplay.

The Greek campaign is directly tied to the political and military circumstances of the period. The player faces Greek forces resisting Roman expansion and must decide how to deal with the territories and populations brought under Roman control.

Player decisions influence the story and relationships with companions, soldiers and political forces within Rome. The game also features historical figures such as Cicero and Cleopatra, presented within an alternate historical interpretation of the period.
