About the Game

Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms (獸王記－諸界守護者 Jūōki, lit. "Beast King Chronicle: Guardian of the Realms" in Japan) is a video game developed by the now defunct 3d6 Games and published by THQ, is a canon sequel to Altered Beast released for the Game Boy Advance in the style of the original arcade game. It adds new features like power-ups, new beast forms, and destructible environments.

Playing as a fallen Guardian of the Realms, players are called by Zeus to defend Olympus and defeat the Arcanon. Gameplay involves hack and slash combat across sixteen levels where the objective is to complete the level by defeating monsters and the level boss to reach the end. Players can punch, kick, duck, and jump, and collect and use power-ups that confer temporary effects, including to increase speed, restore health, add shields, or use magic attacks. Each time the player collects a Spirit Orb, the player grows in size and strength, and shifts into a Beast with a unique appearance in each level when three are collected.Beasts, such as dragons, werewolves, or tigers, confer additional attack abilities.The game also supports two multiplayer modes, including a two-player co-operative mode and a four-player battle mode.

In this game, the player controls a Guardian (the same Centurion from the original arcade game) revived by Zeus to stop Arcanon, a rogue dark reaper bent on total domination. The Guardian can turn into Canis (Werewolf), Nagi (Snake Man/Naga), Draco (Dragon Man), Smilodon (Tiger), Terapis (Spiked turtle), Charodon (Shark), Cerathos (Rhinoceros), Avion (Eagle), Scorpios (Scorpion), and Chimera (Manticore). Each form can be powered up with Talismans that appears in stages that had been completed.

Crete is the first realm from Altered Beast: Guardian of the Realms. Similar to the first game, the player starts off being resurrected by Zeus. This stage is a cemetery filled with zombies and trolls. The beast of this level is the Canis (Wolfman). The boss of the level is a "Giant Undead Centurion Warrior" that throws shields at you and shoots lasers from the eyes. He is defeated by destroying the columns of the pavilion he is in, causing it to come crushing down on him.
