About the Game
Theropods is an independent point-and-click adventure developed by Lost Token and published by Dionous Games. Its origins date back to 2015, when it began as a small Flash project created for a game jam. The original prototype was released online in March 2016 and subsequently became the foundation for a much larger adventure. After approximately ten years of development, the complete game was released on August 20, 2026.
The story takes place in a fictional prehistoric world where humans and dinosaurs coexist. The protagonist is a young huntress belonging to a tribe living in a small jungle settlement. One day, a mysterious glowing stone falls from the sky near her village, attracting a violent group of barbarians. The attackers invade the settlement, capture its inhabitants and force the young hunter to escape. While travelling through the jungle, she discovers that the mysterious stone originated from a crashed escape pod. She encounters a stranded spaceman who needs the stone to repair his spacecraft and return home. The two form an unlikely alliance: the huntress wants to rescue her captured tribe, while the spaceman seeks a way back to his own world.
Their journey takes them through dangerous prehistoric landscapes populated by dinosaurs, hostile creatures and barbarian tribes. Gameplay follows the traditional point-and-click adventure formula. Players explore environments, examine objects, interact with characters and use items to solve puzzles. The challenges are based on visual logic and experimentation. Players must observe how creatures behave, understand character reactions and discover how environmental objects can be used to overcome obstacles. Unlike many adventure games, Theropods does not feature conventional combat. The protagonist cannot simply fight her way through dangerous situations. Instead, players must use their surroundings and intelligence to survive.
They can distract predators, trigger environmental reactions, manipulate objects and exploit the behaviour of enemies to create opportunities for escape. One of the game's defining characteristics is its completely wordless storytelling. There are no spoken dialogues, subtitles or written conversations. The narrative unfolds through character expressions, gestures, animations, sound effects and cinematic sequences. This approach is also integrated into the puzzle design, requiring players to interpret visual information and understand the intentions of other characters.
The visual presentation combines handcrafted pixel art with frame-by-frame animation. Characters, creatures and environments are carefully animated to create a cinematic experience while retaining the appearance of classic 1990s adventure games. The world features jungles, valleys, canyons, caves and dinosaur territories. Its soundtrack combines tribal musical elements with atmospheric science-fiction synthesizers.
The complete adventure takes approximately 2–3 hours to finish and offers a compact standalone story focused on exploration, puzzles, character relationships and visual storytelling. The interface supports 103 languages, including Greek.
