About the Game

reky is a minimalist puzzle game developed by the Greek studio beyondthosehills. It was first released on iOS on October 10, 2019, while the PC and Android versions followed on May 27, 2020. The studio was founded by Maria Aloupi and Andreas Diktyopoulos and has also developed The Minims and Cat Detective Albert Wilde: Quantum P.I..

reky does not feature a traditional narrative or a cast of characters. Instead, the entire experience is built around logic puzzles, using geometry and architectural design as the foundation for its gameplay mechanics.

Its visual identity is strongly influenced by Bauhaus, technical drawing and architectural minimalism. Levels are constructed from clean geometric shapes, lines, cubes, portals and exits, with only limited use of colour. This visual approach is not merely decorative; it is closely connected to how players read and solve each puzzle.

The basic mechanic is simple: players must move and manipulate the various geometric elements within each level in order to create a path toward the objective. As the game progresses, the puzzles become more complex and require a greater understanding of how the different elements interact.

Cubes and lines can be moved, while portals and exits serve as important parts of the player's route. The challenge lies in understanding the structure of each level and determining the correct sequence of actions. The gameplay relies primarily on spatial reasoning and observation rather than speed.

The game contains 96 levels, with the difficulty gradually increasing throughout the experience. Early levels introduce the basic mechanics, while later challenges combine multiple elements to create more complex puzzles.

One of reky's defining characteristics is that its mechanics remain simple and visually clear, even as the puzzles become increasingly difficult. Rather than introducing a large number of different objects or complicated interfaces, the game relies on a small collection of basic elements and explores the many ways in which they can interact.

This approach is closely connected to the game's design philosophy. reky uses abstraction as one of its main tools. Instead of presenting a complex world, it reduces each level to its essential components, allowing players to focus almost entirely on the underlying logic of the puzzle.

Sound is also part of the game's minimalist presentation, with an ambient soundtrack accompanying the puzzle-solving experience without distracting from the gameplay.

The original version was designed for touchscreen devices, which influenced the design of its mechanics. Direct interaction with the geometric elements makes the game particularly well suited to mobile platforms. It was later released on PC and other platforms while retaining the same fundamental gameplay structure.
