About the Game
Nick Delios: Conspiracies, internationally released as Conspiracies, was first released in 2003 for Microsoft Windows. Developed and originally published in Greece by Anima PPD Interactive, it became one of the earliest Greek adventure games to receive international distribution. Set primarily in Athens, it is a first-person point-and-click adventure that offers one of the most authentic portrayals of modern Greece in a video game.
Players take on the role of Nick Delios, a young software developer struggling with financial difficulties and personal setbacks. When an old friend working for the police asks him to unofficially assist in a murder investigation, Nick accepts what appears to be a straightforward case. As the investigation progresses, however, he becomes entangled in a far-reaching conspiracy involving secret organizations, political intrigue, powerful corporations, and hidden agendas that extend far beyond the original crime.
The narrative unfolds through a series of discoveries, with every clue leading to new suspects and unexpected revelations. Conversations play a central role, as information gathered from witnesses and other characters is essential for advancing the investigation and solving the game's puzzles.
Gameplay follows the traditional point-and-click adventure formula. Players explore numerous locations, inspect objects, collect evidence, combine inventory items, and interact with a wide range of characters. Progress depends on observation, logical reasoning, and puzzle solving rather than combat or action sequences.
One of the game's defining features is its extensive use of Full Motion Video (FMV). Most characters are portrayed by live actors whose performances are integrated into pre-rendered 3D environments, giving the game a cinematic presentation reminiscent of classic adventure titles from the 1990s.
Athens itself is one of the game's strongest elements. Many locations are inspired by real places throughout the city, while the architecture, offices, apartments, streets, and public spaces recreate the atmosphere of the Greek capital in the early 2000s. This distinctive setting gives the game an identity rarely found in adventure titles of the period.
The atmosphere blends detective fiction with science fiction and conspiracy themes, gradually expanding the scope of the story as the investigation uncovers increasingly complex secrets. Music and sound design reinforce the sense of mystery, while the narrative remains the driving force behind the experience.
Nick Delios: Conspiracies is regarded as one of the landmark productions of the Greek video game industry. As one of the first Greek-developed games to achieve international distribution, it stands out for its authentic Greek setting, cinematic FMV presentation, and strong emphasis on storytelling and puzzle-solving, making it one of Greece's most recognizable adventure games.
