About This Game
Flames of Freedom: 1821 is a 3D action side scroller platformer set during the Greek War of Independence. Blending fast, brutal combat with precision platforming, the game challenges players to survive deadly runs where death is permanent but progress is not! Each run sends you through war-torn environments, inspired by real history and myth: burned villages, Ottoman forts, abandoned monasteries, ruined harbors and dark, mystical caves. While levels are currently handcrafted, the core experience is built around replayability, mastery, and adaptation. Defeated enemies and fallen heroes leave behind Flames, a meta-currency used between runs to unlock permanent upgrades. These include secondary weapons, powerful special abilities and Anathemas: passive effects that reshape each run. With limited slots per attempt, every choice matters. The story unfolds across 5 chapters, reimagining the Greek Revolution as a symbolic struggle between divine freedom and oppressive darkness. History and myth intertwine, turning real events into a timeless allegory of sacrifice, resistance, and rebirth.
Story
Greece in 1821 is not ready for revolution.
It is exhausted, frightened, broken. Villages are burned, monasteries closed, churches silent. The land is held by fire and brutal violence. Only those who do not resist, remain. The flame is not lit by plan. It is lit by necessity. The Struggle is born on the margins. In mountain villages that refuse to be wiped out, in monasteries that hide weapons instead of icons, in churches that become refuges and places of oaths. Beneath the ruins of ancient temples, where the memory of the land is older than any conqueror, the first flames are lit There are no armies. There are no certainties. Only people with clenched fists and eyes fixed ahead. Fighters who endure, who persevere, who rise again. Their strength lies not in their numbers, but in their determination not to back down. Every confrontation has a cost. Every loss weighs heavily. And yet, the Fight continues. In the world of Flames of Freedom: 1821, you don’t play a hero. You take the place of one of the anonymous fighters. Every life is temporary. What remains is the flame—the memory, the determination, the will to continue the Fight. Everything that is gained is passed on to the next. Everything that is lost becomes a reason to fight harder. Opposite you, stands a world organized by fear: soldiers, executioners, and figures of authority who maintain control through brutal violence. Their very presence is a threat. Their every defeat is a rift. As the flame passes from hand to hand, the place changes. Villages become strongholds. Monasteries become meeting points. The stones of the ancient land stand witness to a new Fight. Greece is not liberated all at once. It is pushed forward step by step, with courage, determination, and self-sacrifice. The Fight does not end with death. It goes on through it.
